RIBA Stirling Prize for Kingston University ‘Town House’ project
Alloy Fabweld Limited would like to congratulate Grafton Architects on securing this year’s RIBA Stirling Prize for their standout design on the Kingston University ‘Town House’ project, now formally recognised as the United Kingdom’s best new building 2021.
Alloy Fabweld would also at the same time like to thank Willmott Dixon Construction for trusting Alloy Fabweld to work in collaboration with the entire project team. Where we enjoyed working on the interpretation and development of the concept designs, the manufacture, and finally the safe and successful installation of this large bespoke Architectural Metalwork package, within this world class landmark building.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) have awarded the 25th RIBA Stirling Prize winner to Grafton Architects, for the architectural design work at Kingston University London, named as the ‘Town House’, that is deserving of international acclaim and attention.
The design has won accolade as a ‘progressive new model for the design of higher education buildings’. By expertly combining the ethos of learning and the value of community cohesion. The name also has meaning, with ‘Town’ referring to the building’s civic dimension, and ‘House’ to reflect a sense of home and belonging.
The Town House provides a spacious space that extends from the public space, set back from the street, blurring boundaries and removing barriers, offering shadow and shelter to students, residents and visitors. Containing a public forum, leading to an amphitheatre, complimenting social and study spaces, a public forum, quiet library, archive, dance studio and theatre.
The building uses a thermally-activated concrete frame to reduce operational energy use. Coined as a highly-adaptable building that will provide for students, residents and visitors for years to come. . The building achieves a rating of BREEAM Excellent.
